Gutter replacement in Bluffton makes sense when repairs no longer hold: seams leak faster than they can be resealed, the metal is pitting, or the gutters were never big enough. With more than 20 years of Lowcountry gutter work, A&A Island Services will tell you honestly if replacement is the right call.
Three parts: remove the old system cleanly, deal with what it hid, and put up something better.
Removal: old gutters, hangers, and downspouts come down without damaging the fascia or roof edge.
Fascia inspection: every foot checked for soft wood, rot, and old spike holes.
New gutters: sized for your roof and usually best as seamless gutters.
New hangers and pitch: fastened into framing, with every run re-pitched toward its outlets.
Downspouts: placed for the yard and landscaping you have today.
Optional guards: micro-mesh gutter guards added in the same visit.
Warning Signs
Signs It Is Time to Replace, Not Repair
One of these alone may be a repair. Two or three together usually point to replacement.
Gutters 20 or More Years Old
InterNACHI's standard life-expectancy chart gives aluminum gutters 20 to 40 or more years and galvanized steel about 20. Its chart for Florida and nearby coastal areas trims those to 15 to 35 years and about 15. Original gutters on a 1990s or 2000s house are in that window now.
Corrosion or Leaks at Many Seams
Pitting, white powder on aluminum, or rust on steel along the gutter floor means the metal itself is wearing out. On a sectional system with a splice every 10 to 20 feet, several leaking joints at once means the next set is not far behind.
Overflow Even When Clean
If clean, properly pitched gutters still pour over the front edge in summer storms, they are too small for the roof. A 5 inch gutter on a large or steep roof, or under a valley dumping into one corner, needs a bigger system, not another repair.
Fascia Rot and Patches on Patches
Soft fascia, hangers that will not stay tight, and several colors of old sealant mean water has been getting behind a system that has been fixed again and again. Bob Vila suggests replacement once you are spending too many afternoons repairing your gutters.
How It Works
How a Gutter Replacement Works
The owner is on site for every A&A job, from taking down the old system to testing the new one.
Assess the Old System
We look at the gutters, hangers, downspouts, and fascia and talk about what has gone wrong. That sets the size and layout of the new system and shows whether wood repair should be planned.
Remove and Inspect
The old system comes off carefully so shingles and drip edge stay intact. With the fascia exposed, we check each board, mark soft or rotted sections, and show you where repair is needed.
Install the New System
New gutters go up sized for your roof, pitched toward the outlets, on new hangers fastened into framing. Corners and end caps are sealed, and downspouts go where the yard can take the water.
Add Upgrades and Test
If you chose guards, they go on now. Then water runs through every gutter to confirm it drains, and we walk the finished job with you, one run at a time.
Options
Upgrade Options and Lifespans by Material
Replacement is the time to fix what the original system got wrong. Switch to seamless runs: This Old House estimates 20 to 30 years of life for seamless gutters versus 10 to 15 for sectional. Move up to 6 inch gutters and 3 by 4 inch downspouts on big or steep roofs, or add guards. Our gutter installation page covers sizing.
Material sets the clock on your next replacement, and InterNACHI's two charts show how much the coast takes off:

Cost
Gutter Replacement Cost
This Old House's 2026 cost guide, drawing on HomeAdvisor data, puts full gutter replacement around a house at roughly $1,700 to $3,100. Bob Vila's HomeAdvisor-based guide adds about $0.65 to $0.85 per linear foot to remove old gutters. Treat both as national averages; two stories, copper, or fascia repair push the total up.

Bluffton's 1990s and 2000s Homes Are Due
Much of greater Bluffton was built between 1990 and 2009, so those homes are roughly 17 to 36 years old today. Census Bureau American Community Survey estimates for 2020 to 2024 count about 12,200 of the roughly 22,800 housing units in the 29910 ZIP code as built in those two decades, more than half. In 29909, the neighboring Okatie ZIP code, the share is close to two thirds. Sun City Hilton Head, the Del Webb community in the Okatie area, marked its 25th anniversary in May 2020 according to a South Carolina General Assembly resolution, so its first homes date to the mid 1990s.
Age is only half of it. InterNACHI's coastal chart warns that parts regularly exposed to saltwater, wind, sun, and heat are especially prone to premature failure. Salt air and humidity work on fasteners, seams, and paint all year, so original gutters here can wear out early.

A & A Island Services showed up when they said they would. The installers showed up in a clean well marked vehicle. They were knowledgeable and courteous. They installed new gutters and downspouts in an efficient manner and left the grounds clean. I could not find fault with anything and recommend them unconditionally.

I hired A&A island services to install new gutters on my home. They did a great job and were extremely easy to work with.
Bluffton is home base, and we cover the whole town, from Buckwalter and Hampton Lake to Old Town and the May River. We also provide gutter replacement in these nearby areas:
It should not. The old gutters and hangers come off carefully so the drip edge and edge shingles stay intact, and new hangers fasten through the fascia, not the roof surface. If we find existing roof-edge damage once the gutters are off, we will show you before new work goes up.
Should I upgrade to 6 inch gutters when I replace?
If your current 5 inch gutters overflow when clean and properly pitched, a 6 inch system is worth considering. It handles more water from large roofs, steep pitches, and valleys, which matters in Lowcountry summer storms. We recommend a size for each run during your free estimate.
What happens if the fascia is rotten?
Rotted fascia must be repaired or replaced before new gutters go up, because hangers cannot hold in soft wood. With the old gutters off, we check every board and show you the damage. Fixing it now costs less than taking new gutters back down later to reach the wood.
How long will new gutters last in Bluffton?
Material and upkeep decide most of it. InterNACHI's chart for Florida and the surrounding coastal region gives aluminum gutters 15 to 35 or more years and copper 40 or more. Clean gutters that do not hold wet debris, plus quick leak repairs, help a new system reach the long end.
