Gutter guards in Bluffton have a harder job than most. Pine needles slip through cheap screens, live oak tassels mat on foam, and spring pollen coats everything. A&A Island Services installs micro-mesh, the style built to stop fine debris. It will not make gutters maintenance-free, but it cuts cleaning to about once a year. What Our Gutter Guard Installation Includes
A guard is only as good as the gutter under it, so every job starts there.
A full gutter cleaning first, so nothing is trapped under the mesh.
A gutter check. Loose hangers, leaking seams and bad pitch get fixed first, through gutter repair if needed.
Micro-mesh cut to fit each run, with corners and end caps trimmed tight and every panel fastened to the gutter.
A downspout test with water, since outlets and elbows still need to run free.
Gutters rusted or pulling away? Pair guards with new seamless gutters.
Warning Signs
Signs Your Home Needs Gutter Guards
Guards pay off fastest when these sound familiar.
You clean more than twice a year
If the gutters refill a few months after a cleaning, the trees are winning. This Old House says most homes need two to four cleanings a year without guards and about one with micro-mesh. Under heavy canopy, that gap adds up.
Pine needles are packed in the trough
Clemson Extension says loblolly needles run 6 to 10 inches long. In a gutter they lie flat, cross and knit into a mat that traps leaves and pollen. Micro-mesh keeps the needles on top, where they can be brushed off.
Your roof is tall or steep
Every cleaning you skip is a ladder trip nobody has to make. On a two-story or three-story home, or a steep roof over a pool deck, fewer climbs is often the best reason to add guards, and the gutters take less ladder wear.
Downspouts jam every spring
Live oaks drop old leaves and stringy catkins in spring, and both wash to the outlet and wedge in the first elbow. If a downspout backs up each April, guards that keep oak litter out of the trough keep it out of the downspout too.
How It Works
How We Install Micro-Mesh Gutter Guards
Most installations follow four steps.
Talk it through by phone
Call (843) 505-1389 and tell us about your trees, roof height, gutter age and any overflow you have seen. That conversation starts your free estimate and tells us whether guards are the right fix.
Clean and tune the gutters
We clear and flush everything, then fix what would undermine a guard: a loose hanger, a dripping seam, a run that holds water. Guards go on a gutter that drains properly, or they wait.
Fit and fasten the mesh
Panels are measured and cut for each run, with corners, miters and end caps trimmed so needles have no easy way in. Each one is fastened to the gutter, not just set on top.
Water test and walk-through
We run water across the mesh and through each downspout to confirm it flows, then show you the light upkeep the guards need, such as brushing the surface after pollen season.

Why do needles and tassels beat cheap screens? This Old House notes standard screens are not great at blocking pine needles. A needle that lands end-first drops partway through a hole and sticks, then leaves and catkins pile on. Micro-mesh is fine enough to filter needles and roof grit, though it needs precise fitting.
Cost
What Gutter Guards Cost
This Old House's November 2025 survey of 1,000 homeowners put professional guard installation at an average of $4,653 for 200 linear feet. Cheaper foam and brush guards cost more to keep up, at two to three cleanings a year. Your price depends on linear feet, roof height, corners and whether the gutters need work first. These are national averages, not A&A prices. Call (843) 505-1389 for a free estimate.
Pines, Pollen and HOA Rules for Gutter Guards in Bluffton
Much of Bluffton was built in the woods, and quickly: the town grew from 12,530 people at the 2010 census to 27,716 in 2020. Beaufort County's comprehensive plan found that a quarter of the county's planted pine acreage went to development between 1988 and 2006, and local ordinances protect trees during construction. Many newer homes, like the wooded home sites at Hampton Hall off the Bluffton Parkway, sit among standing pines.
Those pines drop needles in fall and pollen in spring. Clemson Extension says the yellow-green spring coating on cars and patio furniture is mostly pine pollen. On micro-mesh it can leave a film that slows water, so brush or rinse the mesh once the season ends. Before adding gutter guards in Bluffton's planned communities, check with your HOA or ARB.
Why A&A
Why Bluffton Homeowners Choose A&A for Gutter Guards
Gutters Only
A gutter-only company
A&A works on gutters and nothing else: cleaning, repair, replacement, seamless installs, downspouts and micro-mesh guards. That focus matters, because the gutter underneath decides whether a guard works. We catch a loose hanger or a backward pitch before the mesh covers it, and we fix it first instead of sealing the problem in where nobody will see it for years.
Owner On Site
The owner checks every corner
Micro-mesh does not forgive sloppy cuts. A gap at an inside corner or a panel that does not seat lets needles in and defeats the purpose. The owner of A&A is on site for every job, so corners, end caps and downspout outlets are checked by the person who stands behind the work. You can ask questions while the guards go on.
Licensed & Insured
Licensed, insured and guaranteed
A&A is licensed and insured, and every guard installation is covered by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. Guards are a long-term purchase, so it matters who answers the phone a few years from now. What Customers Say About Our Gutter Guards
Five-star Google reviews from Lowcountry homeowners.
This is second year that A&A Island has cleaned out our gutters. They also installed gutter guards which fixed some drainage issues near foundation. They are very professional and do a great job! Highly recommend!

Andrey and his crew installed gutters on the side of my house. They were very professional. They also installed gutter guards and they work great. We had almost 8" of rain one evening and they kept the water well away from our house. I highly recommend them.
Dave HunterGoogle review
We had them install new gutters and gutter protectors around our house. We had many quotes and his was the most reasonable one. They came and did an outstanding job. They are kind, neat, clean and professional.
Bluffton is home base, and we cover the whole town, from Buckwalter and Hampton Lake to Old Town and the May River. We also provide gutter guards in these nearby areas:
The right type does. This Old House found standard screens are not great at stopping pine needles, while micro-mesh filters fine material like needles and roof grit. That is why A&A installs micro-mesh. Needles still land on top, but they stay out of the trough.
Will I still have to clean my gutters with guards?
Yes, just much less. This Old House's maintenance research puts micro-mesh at about one cleaning a year. Here, that usually means brushing pollen and leaf litter off the mesh after spring and taking a look after big storms. Skip the pressure washer, which can warp the mesh.
Can you put guards on my existing gutters?
Usually, if they are sound. We check hangers, seams and pitch first, because a guard on a sagging or leaking gutter just hides the problem. If your gutters are rusted, too small or pulling away, new seamless gutters with guards installed at the same time often make more sense.
Do I need HOA approval for gutter guards?
It depends on your community, and exterior rules vary by HOA. Micro-mesh sits flat on the gutter, so it changes the roofline less than a bulky hood, but check with your HOA or ARB before installation. We can describe the product so you know what to ask.
