Steel-core gutters with an aluminum-zinc coating that match Lowcountry metal roofs. Here is where they work in Bluffton, and where salt water calls for another metal.
Galvalume gutters in Bluffton make the most sense on homes with metal roofs, heavy tree cover, or both. Galvalume is steel sheet with a coating the GalvInfo Center describes as 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc and 1.5% silicon, and its data shows that coating outlasting plain galvanized steel by two to four times.
It is not right for every house near the water, and after 20+ years on Lowcountry gutters, A&A Island Services will tell you so up front.
What a Galvalume Gutter Installation Includes
A Galvalume job with A&A covers:
Galvalume gutters in bare metal or a painted color matched to your roof and trim.
Matching downspouts sized to the roof area each one drains.
Hangers and fasteners chosen to last as long as the gutter, with neutral-cure sealant, as U.S. Steel's technical bulletin recommends.
Sealed miters, end caps and cut ends, where cutting exposes bare steel.
Downspouts kept off wet concrete, since the GalvInfo Center warns that concrete's alkalinity attacks the coating's aluminum.
Galvalume earns its place in a few situations. The last card covers where it does not.
You have a metal roof
Galvalume first caught on as metal building roofing after its 1972 introduction, the GalvInfo Center notes. If your roof is Galvalume, gutters in the same metal weather alongside it and avoid pairing metals that react. Copper is not a good partner.
Limbs and ladders keep denting your gutters
Fixr's material comparison notes that aluminum dents more easily when hit by tree limbs or hail or when a ladder leans on it, while steel is hard to dent. Under live oaks that drop branches every storm season, a steel gutter holds its shape better.
You want steel without copper's price
Galvalume costs more than aluminum but less than copper in national cost guides. You get a stiffer gutter and a metal finish that suits a metal roof without paying for copper. The pricing section below has the national cost figures.
When to choose something else
If your gutters will hang near the marsh, a large bay or the surf, or catch steady sprinkler spray, think twice. One supplier's sample Galvalume warranty excludes those locations. On those homes we usually talk through aluminum or copper gutters instead.
How It Works
How We Install Galvalume Gutters
Galvalume's coating has to stay intact to do its job, so every step protects it.
Call and describe the setting
Phone (843) 505-1389; estimates are free. Tell us about your roof, how close you are to the marsh or river, and what is wrong with your gutters. Distance from salt water shapes our advice most.
Measure and plan the layout
We measure each run and downspout drop, note any copper flashing nearby, and check where water will land. Copper and wet concrete are both hard on the coating, so the layout keeps clear of them.
Cut, seal and hang
Cutting exposes bare steel at the edge. The GalvInfo Center says the coating's zinc-rich areas give sheared edges some galvanic protection, but we still seal miters and end caps and hang the gutters with fasteners matched to the metal.
Water test and walkthrough
Water goes through each gutter and downspout while we check slope and outlets, then you get a full walkthrough. The owner is there from the first measurement to the final check.
Options
Bare vs. Painted Galvalume, Compared With Aluminum
U.S. Steel notes that bare Galvalume resists corrosion well enough that, on steep roofs, it is usually painted for looks.
Fixr's national guide to seamless gutter costs lists installed Galvalume at $24 to $30 per linear foot. The same guide puts aluminum at $14 to $20 and copper at $29 to $40. Those are national averages, not A&A's prices.
On your house, the cost depends on:
Total footage, corners and downspout drops
Bare or painted finish, and color matching to an existing roof
Gutter width and downspout size
Removing the old system and repairing any rotted fascia
There is no charge for an estimate. Call (843) 505-1389 to weigh Galvalume gutters in Bluffton against aluminum and copper for your roof.
Galvalume Gutters in Bluffton: Metal Roofs, Marsh and the May River
Metal roofs are part of Bluffton's look. The National Register nomination for the Bluffton Historic District lists metal among the district's roof materials and describes many houses with raised seam metal roofs, so Galvalume gutters often match what is already overhead.
The water is the catch. The EPA describes the May River as an estuarine river valued for its oysters, and plenty of Bluffton homes sit along its marsh. One supplier's sample warranty for painted Galvalume excludes sites within 400 feet of a marsh coastline, 800 feet of a large bay and 1,500 feet of breaking surf. U.S. Steel also recommends precautions near seawater. Inside those distances, look hard at aluminum or copper. Farther back, under the live oaks, Galvalume is a strong option.
Why A&A
Why Bluffton Homeowners Choose A&A for Galvalume Gutters
20+ Years
Straight answers on salt exposure
Two decades and more of Lowcountry gutter work have taught A&A that the right metal depends on where your house sits. A home on the marsh and a home a mile inland under live oaks need different answers. If Galvalume is a poor fit for your lot, we will tell you plainly and recommend a metal that suits it better.
Owner On Site
Details checked while the ladder is up
Galvalume fails at its weak points: cut edges, mismatched fasteners, and contact with copper or wet concrete. A&A's owner is there in person on every job and checks each of those points as the gutters go up. Problems get caught while the ladder is still on the wall, not years later, when rust starts to show at a corner or an end cap.
100% Satisfaction
A guarantee on every job
A&A backs its work with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Should a run lose its pitch or the color miss your roof, phone us and we come back to correct it. The guarantee applies to all of our work, from hangers to downspouts. A&A is 5-star rated, licensed and insured, and the estimate that starts the job is free by phone at (843) 505-1389.

We had them install new gutters and gutter protectors around our house. We had many quotes and his was the most reasonable one. They came and did an outstanding job. They are kind, neat, clean and professional.
Bluffton is home base, and we cover the whole town, from Buckwalter and Hampton Lake to Old Town and the May River. We also provide galvalume gutters in these nearby areas:
Galvalume is steel sheet hot-dipped in a coating of roughly 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc and 1.5% silicon, per the GalvInfo Center. The aluminum acts as a barrier, while the zinc-rich areas give galvanic protection where steel is exposed, such as cut edges. The product dates to 1972 and is covered by ASTM A792.
Is Galvalume better than galvanized steel near the coast?
In testing, yes. GalvInfo Center data from Kure Beach, North Carolina shows galvanized coatings corroding about 3.8 times faster than Galvalume 25 meters from the ocean, and 8.2 times faster at 250 meters. Better than galvanized is not salt-proof, though, and supplier warranties can still exclude sites close to surf, bays and marsh.
Can Galvalume gutters be used near copper?
We advise against it. U.S. Steel recommends against Galvalume contact with lead, graphite, cement or copper, and ATAS International notes that runoff from copper carries copper salts that speed corrosion of less noble metals. If copper flashing or a copper roof sheds water into the gutters, copper gutters are the safer match.
Should I choose bare or painted Galvalume?
Mostly it comes down to looks. Bare sheet sold with a clear acrylic coat resists the scuffs and handprints that, according to the GalvInfo Center, can otherwise darken and stay visible for years. Painted finishes let you match roof and trim colors.
